Stapler Collection
In 1866, George McGill received a U.S. patent for a small, bendable brass paper fastener. The first modern stapler appeared in 1877, when Pennsylvania inventor Henry Renno Heyl patented a device that held a single staple. Years later, a stapler that was similar to what we use today was invented in 1895 by the E.H. Hotchkiss Company. It was called the No. 1 Paper Fastener.
Swingline was founded by Jack Linsky in 1925 in New York City. He created a stapler known as the “Swingline” with a top opening where the staples could be dropped. Swingline is one of the largest stapler manufacturers in the United States.
